Token Weather

A weather forecast for your context window, in one line above the prompt

Status linesAbove the promptDraws only
Token Weather running in Claude Code

Recorded on Claude Code 2.1.287 in a sandbox. Claude's replies are scripted; everything the mod draws is real.

What it does

One line above the prompt tells you how full the context window is, as weather. You get an icon and a word for the fill level, the percentage, the tokens used out of the window, a small bar chart of the last 12 turns and how much the last turn added. It updates after every turn, so you can see a long session heading for a compaction before it happens.

Used Forecast
under 25% ☀ Clear
25 to 49% ☁ Cloudy
50 to 74% ☂ Showers
75 to 89% ☇ Storm
90% and up ↯ Compact soon

How to use it

Install it and work as normal. There's nothing to configure.

  • Before the first reply the band reads 0%, because no response has reported usage yet.
  • The chart's bars are relative to the fullest turn shown, so growth shows even at a low fill. The percentage is the real figure.

Good to know

  • The percentage is of the whole window. Claude Code's own "context used" notice counts against the auto-compact point, which is lower, so the two can differ.
  • On a 1M-token window, everyday work stays Clear for a long time. That's accurate.
  • The history starts over when the session starts or the plugin reloads.
  • It draws the whole band above the prompt, so another mod that draws there competes for the same space.
  • The repo's marketplace lives in the claude-code/mods folder, not the repo root, so clone the repo and add that folder as a local marketplace, or load the mod with --plugin-dir.
  • Anthropic shares it as a sample, as-is, with no support.
