Claude Fleet running in Claude Code

Recorded on Claude Code 2.1.287 in a sandbox. Claude's replies are scripted, and shown in the mod's own demo mode, with made-up sessions; everything the mod draws is real.

What it does

A line under the prompt counts the Claude Code sessions running on your machine: how many, how many are busy and how many are waiting on you. /fleet opens a pane with one row per session: a short title for what it's working on, whether it's busy or waiting, its folder and git branch, uncommitted files and commits ahead, how long it's been idle and how much context it holds. Sessions whose prompt cache has expired are marked cold, since resuming them re-sends the whole context at full price.

Each row also gets a mark for whether it's worth resuming: ● in progress, ◐ finished (write a handoff and close it), ○ light (just close it). Git worktrees of the current repo with no session in them show up too.

How to use it

/fleet opens the pane and gives it the keyboard. It refreshes every 5 seconds.

  • ↑ and ↓ select a session. Esc gives the keyboard back to the prompt.
  • h writes a handoff note for the selected session, a short summary a fresh session can pick up from.
  • s saves the conversation as Markdown in that session's folder.
  • c copies a cd <folder> && claude --resume <id> command.
  • x closes the selected session. Press it again within 10 seconds to confirm.
  • r refreshes now.

The same actions work as commands: /fleet handoff, /fleet save, /fleet kill (repeat within 60 seconds to confirm), plus /fleet list, /fleet stale and /fleet help.

While you work, it also offers a handoff in the band above the prompt once your session passes 300k tokens (CLAUDE_FLEET_HANDOFF_AT changes that), pauses /exit when a session is mid-task or over 100k tokens, and pops up a note when another session starts waiting on you. To try it without touching anything real, start Claude Code with CLAUDE_FLEET_DEMO=1.

Good to know

  • It reads Claude Code's own session list in ~/.claude/sessions/, keeping only each session's process id, folder, name, status, id and last update. That folder is internal to Claude Code, so an update could move it.
  • It runs ps to check processes, git status in each session's folder, and head and tail on session transcripts to measure context and write titles.
  • It asks Haiku to title sessions in the background while the pane is open, and Sonnet to write handoffs. Both cost tokens.
  • It can close other Claude sessions. It never closes busy sessions, sessions waiting on you or your own, and it checks each process is still Claude before signalling it. Closed conversations stay on disk for claude --resume.
  • Saved conversations can contain secrets. It warns you when the file isn't git-ignored.
  • There's no marketplace entry: clone the repo and load it with --plugin-dir.
